Boosting your fall skin care routine can dramatically help your skin stay hydrated as you transition into the winter months. Check out the many ways I nurture my skin during the fall season, including product recommendations for safer, yet highly effective products.
Don’t Forget Sunscreen
It’s easy to stop your daily SPF routine now that you’re not laying on the dock or running around the playground. Make sure you’re still using daily sunscreen, especially on your face, neck and tops of your hands. I like using Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 for my face. The coverage is light but you still get SPF and a nice healthy dewy glow, plus the added benefit of the product being formulated with safer ingredients. I love to use the Body Stick SPF 30 on my neck, chest and the tops of my hands.
Face Oil Boost
Most parts of the country become more dry in the fall, so adding face oils to your daily routine is important. I personally love the Hydrating and Balancing Face Oils (pictured above), which easily absorb into your skin, leaving no oily residue. Simply place 5-6 drops of the oil into the palm of your hand and gently rub into your face. Let the oil absorb and then continue by applying the rest of your makeup (like the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer above). Some people like to add a few drops of the face oil into their daily moisturizer, I personally like to layer the products for added hydration. You can check out how face oils are particularly good for acne-prone skin HERE.
Cleansing Balm Must-Have
Cleansing balms fall into one of those “European best kept secret” categories. These products are oil-based nighttime cleansers and can be used for several other purposes: cuticle oil treatment, anti-aging night cream, dry spot treatment for elbows, eye makeup remover. I wrote a post about how this particular Cleansing Balm can be used for 10 different uses! The price point is high at $80 USD, but lasting 6+ months with regular use, it’s well worth the cash. My favorite way to use this product is as a night cream, focusing on a thick application around dry patches on my face. Purchase the Cleansing Balm HERE.
Coconut Oil Scalp Treatment
I suffer from a dry scalp in the fall and winter months, and switching shampoos doesn’t seem to get the job done. I like to take a bath and rub coconut oil into my scalp while I rest, read or wash. At the end of your bath, you will need to wash your hair two to three times to remove the excess oil. The results are amazing! If you suffer from dandruff, you may need to do two treatments within the span of a week, but you’ll never want to use Head and Shoulders again.
Body Oils & Butter
When you hop out of the bath or a hot shower, your skin can be left dry. I recommend using body oils like THIS on damp skin. This makes it easier to absorb and rub in and ensures that you’re skin isn’t cracking throughout the day. You can also check out: My Favorite Oils for Face and Body. Think body oils might be too much for you? Try this Body Butter which is thick and creamy!
Use Cream Blush for a Hydrated Look
Try using Cream Blush instead of powder blush for a healthy glow. I personally love all three of these Color Pinch Cream Blushers, most often using the Caramel color, which can help keep a tan glow, doubles as a bronzer that showcases pink undertones when applied to the skin.
Water
Stay hydrated during the fall and winter months with lots of water. Filtered tap water is always best!
Add Collagen to Fall Recipes
Collagen is one of the best remedies for healthy skin, hair, nails and joints. I love the brand Vital Proteins for their dedication to sustainable sourcing, marine collagen options and for the fact that their products truly are tasteless and odorless. Collagen can easily be added to popular fall foods like soups, hot cereal breakfast, pasta and hot tea.
