Protect Your Skin This Spring

Depending on what part of the country you live in, spring means different things for your skin. Some of you are still slogging through one of the snowiest, worst winters ever and others of you need to think about adding sunscreen back into your morning routine.

I work for a company called Beautycounter, which is making the safest, highest performing products on the market (I don’t say that lightly). In short, the products actually work the way you want them to, and you also have the confidence to know that each and every ingredient is screened for safety. Many of Beautycounter’s products are great for helping you transition into spring with healthy skin.

1 – Exfoliate dry winter skin

Part of refreshing your skin is ensuring you are properly exfoliating. I suggest three products to help keep your skin buffed and refreshed:

Glow Sugar Scrub:

To be honest when I first heard about the Glow Sugar Scrub I thought it was something that would make a great gift, but I wouldn’t necessarily use myself. And then I tried it… OMG. I use this product several times a week in the shower or bath. The sugar exfoliates your skin, but the oil blend leaves you silky, non-greasy and moisturized. The sugar scrub has a citrus and lemongrass fragrance (from cold pressed essential oils) that is perfect for spring.

Beautycounter Exfoliating Polish

Gentle Exfoliator Polishing Cream:

The Gentle Exfoliator Polishing Cream is a face wash, exfoliator and toner all in one. This product is great for removing make-up, uses jojoba esters instead of plastic microbeads, smells wonderful and is a great value. This highly concentrated face wash will last months when used on a daily basis. Beautycounter’s products are designed to have a little go a long way, ensuring you get great value.

Exfoliating gloves:

These gloves are a staple in my shower and I use at least three times a week to fully scrub my whole body – face included. To keep them clean, simply throw the mittens in the wash.

2 – Protect with daily sunscreen

There are endless reasons to add sunscreen to your daily routine: to prevent skin cancer, reduce the signs of aging, manage and prevent age spots. If you live in a sunny state March is a great time to add sunscreen to your morning skin care routine. I suggest using Beautycounter’s All Over Protect Sunscreen – SPF 30. I wear this under my tinted moisturizer (and can’t even tell I’m wearing it).

The product goes on smooth (it isn’t thick and white like most mineral sunscreens), smells lovely, and doesn’t make me break out. The best part? The sunscreen drastically helps reduce melasma, protects my skin from the intense southern California sun and I can trust that the ingredients used are safe (non-nano titanium dioxide for example).

3 – Oils, oils, oils

I am part of the generation that grew up using “oil-free” everything on my skin. Oily of Olay “oil free” moisturizer was my go-to product, (along with my Herbal Essences shampoo and Teen Spirit deodorant – remember those?). I’ve battled with acne for years and recently learned that I had it wrong all along, oils are my friend! Since I started using face and body oils, my skin has never looked better.

Lustro Face Oils

This collection of Face Oils are incredible, non-greasy, will give you a dewy glow (without shine) and will help reduce the signs of aging, chronic dryness and acne. There are three different face oils which have slight advantages for different skin types. I use all three face oils and regularly rotate between them based on the fragrance I’m drawn to that particular day. lustro face oil

  • Lustro Face Oil #1 – Calendula (magnolia) – This oil is best for sensitive skin and has the lightest fragrance.
  • Lustro Face Oil #2 – Jasmine – Recommended for “mature” or dry skin. (I love this one!)
  • Lustro Face Oil #3 – Ylang Ylang & Wild Chamomile – My current favorite oil, this is good for acne prone or problematic skin.
  • The Lustro Oil Complete Face Collection – All three oils at a great value (you save when you buy all three).

Lustro Body Oil

Another great addition to your body and skin care regime. Simply rub on the body oil after getting out of the shower for hydration that lasts all day. Or if you’re having a night on the town, rub the body oil on your freshly shaven legs for that extra shine. Shop the Lustro Body Oil Collection.

4 – Lots of water, sleep & healthy foods

It goes without saying, but one of the best things for one’s skin is healthy food, lots of water and plenty of sleep. You can read more about my healthy skin routine here.
